IMPORTANCE OF PRIMARY TEETH
Most of the parents think that the milk teeth are expendable. We have heard them saying “anyway it is going to fall off within a few years, right?” Well the answer is Yes It will fall out but the question is When?
The when is important because
of multiple reasons.
Tooth alignment and position
The milk teeth maintain the position until the permanent teeth are ready to take their place. If they fall off before time the adjacent teeth will drift in their place and block the eruption of the adult teeth underneath.
Healthy permanent teeth
The health of the milk teeth is important because if they are infected, the chances of infection spreading to the surrounding tissue and effecting the development of adult teeth is increased. This puts the permanent dentition at risk.
Proper health and nutrition
The growth age of children is important because the metabolic activities in the child’s body are taking place at a stunning pace. These activities are dependent upon the nutrition of the child. Dental infections in children make them picky about eating and the pain also affects the
appetite of the child.
Speech and Facial Development
The Teeth, Tongue and jaw bones develop in a synchronized manner. All these parts help in chewing, speech and structural development of the face. Early falling of milk teeth can affect the speech of the child and affect the behaviour of the child. The facial growth is also irreveribly effected.
Concentration and self-esteem
If a child is having dental pain, it can greatly affect their ability to pay attention and learn in school. Decayed teeth can also interfere with a child’s social interactions and affect their confidence and self-esteem. This can also lead to children missing school and parents having to miss work if they have to take children into the dentist for emergency appointments.
The bottom line:
Teaching your child to develop good oral care habits with their primary teeth is very important! These early habits will help them keep those permanent teeth healthy for life!
